Jack Rolfe

Senior Labour writer

I am a third-year student at the University of Exeter, studying BSc Politics and International Relations. After graduating in the summer of 2020, I will be completing an MSc in Applied Social Data Science. I will also be the Treasurer of the Politics Society, as well as of the Uni Boob Team for the 2020/2021 academic year.

My entry into politics came at a fierce time, campaigning for Britain Stronger In during the referendum, and then for Labour a year later in the general election. My conclusions? Firstly, if I campaign for something, it probably won’t win. Secondly, I want to be involved in politics wherever possible, whether that’s through campaigning or writing. This I why I like POI, because it’s a great way to discover new perspectives whilst becoming a contributor to political discourse.

Politically, I am left-wing, advocating for the implementation of some socialist policies in Britain such as universal basic income, higher taxes on those who can afford it, and the renationalisation of some of Britain’s industry. I also advocate for both police and prison reform as I believe this would be of great benefit to society. That being said, I welcome the debate that these topics will spark, and I’m excited to see the response!
